Personal Takeaways: After reading this book I wanted to become an advocate for my students and become intentional with my instruction to help meet their needs.
Lingering Questions: How does RTI play out in my current school, and how can I use the information acquired from the text to drive instruction further?
Allington, R. L. (2008). What really matters in response to intervention: research by design. Boston, MA: Pearson Education, Inc.
Action Book Club: The pathway that led to my interest in Response to Intervention began during the time I spent in ECI 540 - Reading in the Elementary Schools. One of our assignments was to complete an Action Book Club study, and the book I randomly chose was What Really Matters in Response to Intervention, written by Richard Allington. This book dives into identifying struggling readers and starting an intervention plan that can be used to address their needs. When collaborating with my peers for this book, I was inspired to reflect on my teaching strategies and redirect my thinking. Instead of seeing a struggling reader, I was inspired to see a student that struggles in a particular area of reading. After reading this book I wanted to become an advocate for my students and become intentional with my instruction to help meet their needs.
